Trumpeter Allen Vizzutti to perform April 4 
World-renowned trumpeter Allen Vizzutti will join the Arkansas All-Star Big Band for a concert April 4 at Henderson State University in Arkansas Hall. Vizzutti will also present two clinics before the 7:30 p.m. performance.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to hear one of the world’s greatest trumpet players backed up by a powerful, dynamic 17-piece big band,” said Dr. Jim Buckner, chair of the department of music and professor of trumpet at Henderson. “Almost the entire band is composed of Henderson alums or faculty. It will be a great show.”
A Yamaha artist, Vizzutti’s appearance is sponsored by the Henderson State Student Activities Board, Yamaha, and The Band House.

At 10 a.m., Vizzutti will talk about his daily life as a performer and composer, his musical influences, and experiences during his career. He will present a trumpet clinic from 3-4:30 p.m. Both clinics will be in Arkansas Hall.
Vizzutti performs as a classical and a jazz artist, often in the same evening. He has appeared as guest soloist with symphony orchestras, in recital, on television, and in jazz venues around the world.
While growing up in Montana, Vizzutti was taught by his father, a self-taught musician. He attended the Eastman School of Music where he earned the bachelor of music and master of music degrees, a performer’s certificate, a chair in the Eastman Brass Quintet faculty ensemble, and the only artist’s diploma ever awarded a wind player in Eastman’s history.
As artist in residence, Vizzutti has taught at leading universities throughout the world, including the Eastman School of Music, the Banff Center for the Performing Arts, and the Trompeten Akademie of Bremen, Germany.
His extensive methodology books, The Allen Vizzutti Trumpet Method series and his New Concepts for Trumpet, have become standard works for trumpet study worldwide.
Vizzutti has visited more than 40 countries and every state in America to perform with a variety of artists and ensembles. He has appeared with Chick Corea, Doc Severinsen, the NBC Tonight Show Band, Chuck Mangione, Woody Herman, and numerous orchestras and symphonies throughout the world.
His status as an artist has led to solo performances at the Hollywood Bowl, Carnegie Hall, Newport Jazz Festival, Banff Center for the Performing Arts, Montreaux Jazz Festival, and Lincoln Center.
While living in Los Angeles during the 1980s, Vizzutti performed on more than 100 motion picture soundtracks, such as Back to the Future and Star Trek, and countless television programs and commercials.
He has recorded several jazz and classical CDs.

The Arkansas Big Band was formed last year to perform with acclaimed trumpeter Wayne Bergeron at Henderson. This year, the band includes: Saxophone – Gary Meggs, Andrew Splawn, Earl Hesse, Marc Ballard, and Sean LaFollette; Trombone – Mike Bryant, Sim Flora, Mark Windham, and Trae Warner; Trumpets – Joey Castrogiovanni, Garry Henson, John Webb, and Jim Buckner; Rhythm – Rick Dimond, Les Pack, Don Colquitt, and C.E. Askew.
