Taylor named Teachers College dean

May 17, 2017 by Steve Fellers

Taylor named Teachers College dean

Dr. Celya Taylor, who has served as associate dean/licensure officer for Teachers College, Henderson (TCH) since 2014, has been appointed dean effective July 1.

For the past year, Taylor also served as chair of the Department of Advanced Instructional Studies/Educational Leadership.

“Dr. Taylor’s range and depth of experience as a faculty member and associate dean at Henderson have been instrumental in the national standing enjoyed by our Teachers College, and I am confident that her leadership and academic expertise will continue to serve our university and TCH well,” said Dr. Steve Adkison, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Taylor said Teachers College will continue its tradition of excellence in educator preparation.

“Working with past and present faculty and staff at Henderson and Teachers College for 15 years is a privilege,” Taylor said. “I consider myself a product of the university’s spirit of leadership, encouragement, and positive relationships and look forward to serving in this new role.”

“In collaboration with our valued stakeholders, Teachers College will continue to provide exemplary examples of professionals who lead and serve in schools, agencies, and various organizations.”

Taylor joined Henderson in 2001 as an instructor of curriculum and instruction and director of the M.H. Russell Center for Economic Education. After serving as interim chair of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction from 2009 to 2010, Taylor was appointed chair until she became associate dean/licensure officer and edTPA coordinator in 2014.

Taylor graduated from Grambling State University with her bachelor’s degree in business education. She earned her master’s degree in business administration from the University of South Alabama, and her doctorate in curriculum and instruction from the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
