Students attend Alley Scholars Summit

May 17, 2017 by Steve Fellers

Students attend Alley Scholars Summit

Six Henderson State University students attended the Fifth Annual Alley Scholars Summit at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, March 4-5.

The minority business students heard distinguished speakers Bernard A. Harris Jr., the first African American to walk in space, and Obie L. McKenzie, managing director of BlackRock, the largest institutional asset management firm in the U.S.

Henderson students attending were Sasha Zavala, Iesha Earnest, Danielle Washington, Ryan Eason, JaMesha Plummer, and Mairette Mbarga.

The Alley Scholars Summit gives minority students and those from other underrepresented groups the opportunity to meet and hear the success stories of a diverse group of working professionals.

This is the second time for Henderson to participate in the summit, according to Dr. Jennifer Zarzosa, assistant professor of marketing. “We hope to bring more students next year,” she said.

The Summit is sponsored by Alley Scholars, a non-profit initiative for underrepresented students established by Troy and Unnice Alley with support from the Gerald and Candace Alley Foundation.
