School of Business honors Dawkins 
Serving as dean of Henderson State University’s School of Business has become a familiar task for Dr. Louis Dawkins. He was appointed to fill the vacant dean’s post this summer, making it the fourth time Dawkins has held the position since 1972.
Under his leadership, the School of Business has seen tremendous success and growth. Dawkins’ accomplishments and contributions were recognized Nov. 13 when he was inducted into the Henderson School of Business Hall of Fame.
Dawkins first came to Henderson in 1964 as an accounting instructor and was named School of Business dean in 1972.
In 1981, he left Henderson to serve as director of the School of Accounting at Mississippi State University. Dawkins returned in 1987 as the first holder of the Cecil W. Cupp Chair in the School of Business.
As the School of Business pursued accreditation with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in 1996, Dawkins was named dean for the second time. The school received its initial accreditation in 1998.
Dawkins was later appointed by AACSB to the national Candidacy Committee to assist schools that were applying for and pursuing initial accreditation. He also served on numerous campus peer review teams for AACSB.
When Dawkins retired in 1999, the Louis Dawkins Accounting Professorship was established.
In his retirement, Dawkins served in several capacities, including: consultant for the Alcorn State University School of Business (2000-2001); lecturer (2003-2008); School of Accountancy director at Mississippi State University (2009-2011); and College of Business interim dean at Mississippi State (2011).
Dawkins returned to Henderson in 2012 to serve as interim School of Business dean during the search for a new dean.
He returned for a fourth time earlier this year.
Dawkins earned his M.B.A. and Ph.D. in accounting, marketing, and management from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. He holds the CPA certificate from the State of Arkansas.
