Oct. 8 performance to feature flute, piano
Henderson State University will present Music from Argentina for Flute and Piano at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 in the Russell Fine Arts Recital Hall. The performance will feature Elena Yarritu on flute and Hee-Kyung Juhn on Piano.
Yarritu is a soloist, chamber musician, conductor and teacher. She earned a master’s degree from Yale University School of Music, a doctor of musical arts degree from Stony Brook University in New York, and has worked and studied in Paris.
Yarritu is principal flute in the La Jolla Symphony and serves as the North American coordinator for Tango Para Musicos, an international tango festival for musicians in Buenos Aires and Portland, Ore. She manages a full teaching studio of award-winning young flutists in the San Diego area.
Juhn is associate professor of applied piano and director of keyboard studies at Henderson. She attended The Juilliard School (MM) in New York City, where she was a recipient of Van Cliburn Piano Scholarship and Gluck Fellowship, and has participated in music festivals such as Tanglewood, Aspen, Bowdoin, and Yale Piano Summer Institute.
In addition to her numerous solo and chamber appearances, Juhn has collaborated with many outstanding musicians, and has appeared on concert stages in South America, Europe, Asia and throughout the United States. She made her orchestral debut at the age of 16, playing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No.1 with the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Ciudad de Asunción.
