Kanyiba selected for fitness training program

Dr. Lewis Kanyiba, assistant professor of health and physical education at Henderson State University, has been selected to become a Certified Presidential Youth Fitness Program Trainer. He is one of only two Arkansas educators selected for the program.

Kanyiba will attend the Training of Trainers June 12-13 in Atlanta where he will learn strategies for integrating the Presidential Youth Fitness Program into physical education standards and programming at each level of school.

Other topics include administering the FitnessGram assessment protocols and best practices for using data, and engaging adult learners.

“It is my passion to teach children, and youth sport is one of my research areas,” Kanyiba said.

He plans to host a seven-hour professional development program for physical education teachers through the Dawson Education Cooperative in early July.
