HSU Theatre to present ‘Proposals’ starting Feb. 12
Henderson State University Theatre will present seven performances of Neil Simon’s Proposals Feb. 12, 13, 14, 16, 19, 20 and 21. All performances start at 7:30 p.m. in Arkansas Hall’s Studio Theatre. A reception will follow the opening night performance.
A memory play, Proposals delightfully recalls the last time the Hines family gathered at their cabin in the Poconos. The summer of 1953 brings romantic entanglements that all converge on one idyllic afternoon.
Burt Hines eagerly anticipates the arrival of the ex-wife he still loves. His daughter Josie has just broken her engagement to a Harvard law student and pines for his buddy, an aspiring writer. Clemma, the housekeeper at the center of the action, comments on the events while facing her own unresolved past.
The ensemble cast includes C.J. Bernard of Malvern, Damien Freeman of Sheridan, Zachery Ingersoll of Jacksonville, Dakota Mansfield of Benton, Anthony McBride of Benton, Adrianna McLeod of Rogers, Savannah Reynolds of Monticello, Jacey Russell of Morrilton, and Jordan Sereal of Sherwood.
The play is under the direction of Doug Gilpin, professor of theatre and design, who also designed the scenery. Student designers include Ethan Jones of Arkadelphia designing lighting, and Madison Gallagher of Bentonville designing costumes, makeup, and hair. Parker Milam of Fort Smith is stage manager.
