Henderson to host ‘Flute Spa’ Sept. 19
Henderson State University’s Department of Music will host a Flute Spa for students, teachers and band directors Saturday, Sept. 19, in the Russell Fine Arts building. The free workshop features nationally known flute pedagogue Patricia George.
A Flute Spa is designed to provide new perspectives on how to approach flute playing – everything from scales to body position and practice technique, according to Dr. Steven Becraft, professor of music at Henderson.
“Even though this spa won’t feature massages, manicures or hot tubs, we know that you will come away with a new focus for your performance and practice skills,” Becraft said.
The workshop will cover fundamentals from 9 a.m.-noon, and practice techniques for the 2015-2016 All-State junior and senior high etudes from 1-3 p.m. All participants will be invited to participate in a brief flute choir concert at 4 p.m.
George has presented Flute Spas throughout the United States and at the National Flute Association Convention. She will be available for private lessons on Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Ginny Hudson from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and Jennifer Amox of Henderson State will also be available for private lessons and consultations throughout the workshop.
