Henderson alum is teacher of year semifinalist

Henderson State University alumnus Brian Leonard was recently recognized as one of four semifinalists for 2017 Arkansas Teacher of the Year. Leonard graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in mathematics.

Leonard is an 11-12th grade AP statistics and calculus teacher at Lake Hamilton High School in Hot Springs. He was selected from 14 regional finalists.

Leonard and the other semifinalists each received a medallion and certificate during a ceremony at the state Capitol. They were also awarded $1,000 from the Walton Family Foundation.

A ceremony will be held later this fall to announce and honor the 2017 Arkansas Teacher of the Year, who will receive an additional $14,000.
