Guest trumpet recital March 16

May 17, 2017 by Steve Fellers

Guest trumpet recital March 16

Trumpeter Keith Wood will perform at Henderson State University March 16 at 7 p.m. in the Russell Fine Arts Recital Hall. Wood will also present a trumpet master class at 12:30 p.m.

Both events are free and open to the public.

Wood studied trumpet with the late Don Kramer, a trumpet teacher at Henderson for 16 years. He went on to study with Conrad Bauschka, Don Jacoby, Keith Johnson, Roger W. Spaulding, Bobby Shew, and Clint McLaughlin.

A graduate of North Texas State University, Wood has performed throughout the U.S. and in Germany, Belgium, Africa, and Mexico.

Wood plays trumpet with several ensembles, including Naturally Brass, the Jack Terry Big Band, Full House, the Jack Mitchell Big Band, and LakeWood Trio. Earlier in his career, he played several shows in Branson, Missouri.

Wood’s performance at Henderson will feature several works, including two pieces accompanied by Henderson’s NuFusion jazz ensemble. His appearance is made possible by the Henderson Student Government Association and the HSU Trumpet Guild.
