Funding renewed for EOC program
Henderson State University’s Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) program has received a $236,900 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to continue its programming for the next year.
The award constitutes funding for a five-year grant cycle from Sept.1, 2016, to Aug. 31, 2021.
The EOC provides counseling and information on college admissions to qualified adults who want to enter or continue a program of postsecondary education. It also provides services to improve the financial and economic literacy of participants.
“An important objective of the program is to counsel participants on financial aid options, including basic financial planning skills, and to assist in the application process,” said. Dr. Pam Bax, director of TRIO programs at Henderson. “The goal of the EOC program is to increase the number of adult participants who enroll in postsecondary education institutions.”
EOC can serve veterans, and the program must assure that at least two-thirds of the persons served will be low-income individuals who are potential first-generation college students.
