English majors to present papers
Two Henderson State University English majors will present papers at the annual Sigma Tau Delta conference March 29 through April 1 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Bismarck native Emily Whitley will present her paper titled The Portrayal of Women in Poe. It explores gender roles, stereotypes, and expectations, as well as the subversion and reversal of these ideas in several key works by Edgar Allan Poe, including Ligeia, The Fall of the House of Usher, and Berenice.
Kaitlynn Garrett of Benton will present a personal narrative relating to health and recreation at the conference. Garrett is president of the Henderson State chapter of Sigma Tau Delta.
“It is prestigious to be accepted to present there. I am very excited to attend the convention,” Whitley said. “But it would not be possible without the funding from Henderson State University, for which I am very grateful.”
Established in 1924, Sigma Tau Delta is the English honor society established to honor undergraduate achievement in language, literature, and writing.
