Community Kick-Off Sept. 10
Football season has arrived at Henderson State University as the Reddies host East Central University Thursday, Sept. 10, at Carpenter-Haygood Stadium. Game time is 7 p.m.
Not only will the game mark the Reddies’ 2015 home opener, it will also kick off a series of celebrations in honor of Henderson’s 125th Anniversary.
Thursday’s Community Kickoff features local businesses and organizations that will set up adjacent to Wells Gym beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Henderson’s Alumni Association will host a pregame tailgate featuring local band Sensory 2. Slim and Shorty’s will provide food for $8, and cookies and cupcakes will be served.
“It’s a special day at the stadium with a lot of fun things going on surrounding the game as we get the season under way at home,” said athletic director Shawn Jones. “It will be a great atmosphere with the concert, inflatables for the kids, and the other events.”
The public is invited to attend. All Reddie fans are encouraged to dress in red for the community event and the game.
Admission for the game is $7 for adults and $5 for children K-12. Children five and under, Henderson students, faculty and staff (with university IDs) are admitted free.
Henderson will provide additional parking options in partnership with the Central Arkansas Development Council. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., South Central Arkansas Transit buses will pick up fans at the corner of 12th and Wilson Streets on the main campus and carry them to the Wells Center and the main stadium entrance.
Once the game begins, the buses will load near the stadium main gate and carry passengers back to the 12th and Wilson Street location.
To help build excitement for the game, Reddie football players are visiting local public schools and the Boys and Girls Club to give 1,000 free tickets to local children 12 and under.
“It’s critical for our athletes to get out into the community,” Jones said. “Arkadelphia invests so much in us, and it’s important for us to give back any time we have the opportunity.”
