Bird survey March 25 at field station

May 17, 2017 by Steve Fellers

Bird survey March 25 at field station

Henderson State University’s Simonson Biological Field Station is seeking experienced birders to participate in a bird survey March 25 at the field station.

The bird count will assist with the implementation of a wildlife management plan on 184 acres along the shore of DeGray Lake. The station, located near Bismarck, will open at 6 a.m. Orientation is at 6:30 a.m., and the bird survey will be from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

“The biology department is excited about the opportunity to work with local birders in the community,” said Dr. Troy Bray, chair of Henderson’s biology department. “The event will not only provide us with the help we need to get a baseline survey of birds currently inhabiting our study site, but will provide the public with an opportunity to visit the Simonson Biological Field Station on DeGray Lake.”

For directions and additional information, contact Dr. James Engman, professor of biology, at engmanj@hsu.edu or 870-230-5314.
