Batman documentary includes segment filmed at HSU 
A documentary film now available on Netflix includes a segment featuring Henderson State University professors and students. Legends of the Knight tells the true stories of individuals who were inspired to become real-life heroes because of their childhood love of the comic book character Batman.
Dr. Travis Langley, professor of psychology at Henderson and author of the critically acclaimed Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight, teaches a popular class about Batman. Recognized as an authority on the “Caped Crusader,” Langley is often in demand as a speaker. He is also a regular participant on Comic-Con International panels and other activities.
Filmmaker Brett Culp traveled to Arkadelphia in 2011 to interview Langley and several of his students.
“He found out about my Batman class through social media while he was making his earliest preparations for the documentary,” Langley said. “He came here to record my students on the last day of class before finals. We were the first people he interviewed for the film.”
The five-minute segment also includes an interview with Dr. Randy Duncan, professor of communication at HSU, who teaches a class on comic books and co-authored The Power of Comics: History, Form and Culture. Duncan also co-founded the Comics Arts Conference held in conjunction with the annual Comic-Con International. Student Sean Shuttleworth is also interviewed.
Legends of the Knight can be viewed on Netflix. The segment featuring Henderson State is located about halfway through the 76-minute film.
